Author Aaron Hurst will discuss the purpose economy Wednesday night at Portland’s Hatch.

Author Aaron Hurst is redefining the workplace of the future around the idea that people need purpose in their lives.

Hurst, the New York-based author of “The Purpose Economy: How Your Desire for Impact, Personal Growth and Community Is Changing the World,” theorizes that the Information Technology age is giving way to a purpose-driven one as young and middle-aged workers shift away from conventional career paths toward more meaningful ones. They’re starting businesses at a breathtaking pace, and Portland is a potential hub.

Hurst will visit Portland’s Hatch Center for Innovation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9. Tickets are $12.

Portland Business Journal readers can learn more about Hurst’s views on how Portland is poised to lead the economy of the future in Friday’s weekly edition.
